Rob Donnenwirth enters his 17th season as the head coach of the women's soccer program at East Carolina University. He has guided the Pirates to nine 10-plus win seasons in 16 years, mentored 81 all-conference performers, four academic All-Americans and his 158 victories makes him the winningest coach in school history.
The 2014 season was ECU’s first as a member of the American Athletic Conference as the club matched the 2012 squad for the single-season program record for shutouts with 11, while compiling a 12-8-1 overall mark and reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament. East Carolina had three all-conference selections in senior defender Kelley Johnson, senior goalkeeper Erika Lenns and junior forward Kendall Frey who earned second team nods, respectively. Frey and senior defender Kelly Miller also received NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honors.
The 2013 campaign kicked off with a milestone victory for Donnenwirth after he won his 200th-career game in a 2-0 victory at Davidson on Aug. 23. The Pirates won at least nine games for the eighth year in a row en route to a 9-9-3 overall record, 5-4-1 mark in Conference USA games and reached the semifinals of the C-USA Tournament. Caitlin Hite became the first freshman in program history to earn all-conference first team honors, while Kendall Frey and Danielle Romano received third-team recognition.Read more »
Brian Periman is in his second season as an assistant coach at East Carolina after being hired in March 2014.
Periman plays an integral role in the development of the Pirates’ goalkeepers and his expertise paid immediate dividends during his first year in 2014. East Carolina matched the single-season program record with 11 shutouts, courtesy of excellent goalkeeping by senior Erika Lenns, who earned All-American Athletic Conference Second Team honors with 5.5 shutouts and a 1.14 goals against average in 13 starts, while junior Saundra Baron posted five shutouts and a 0.73 goals against average in eight starts.
Periman arrived at ECU after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at High Point University in 2013. During his coaching career, he served as an assistant coach at both the University of Arizona (2012) and Florida Atlantic University (2011). Periman also worked for one season as a volunteer assistant coach in Tucson during the 2010 campaign.
In addition to his coaching experience at the collegiate level, Periman worked as the goalkeeper coach for the Arizona Olympic Development Program. His duties included preparing daily training schedules for the State ODP goalkeepers and conducting their fitness sessions.Read more »
